Winter Rec and Sorts
Powder Mountain is hosting its first annual ski benefit on Friday, April 24 for the family of Brett S. Earl. Earl, a resident of Eden , died unexpectedly of heart attack on April 11, 2009 at the age of 39. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Earl family – Darnelle, Riley, Raj, Taj and India .
Powder Mountain will open Sundown Lift and Lodge from noon – 8pm on Friday, April 24. The fun of skiing and sledding in springtime conditions will be enhanced by a live music, a silent auction and a barbeque. A snowcat will be escorting non-skiers on scenic tours of Lightning Ridge. A minimum donation of $15 per person will provide participants with either a Sundown lift pass or one ride on the Lightning Ridge snowcat.
Passes are available at www.powdermountain.com or at the Sundown Lodge on the day of the event. For more information, call 801-745-3772 or email

Congratulations to Les Vierra, Best Kiteboards, and the rest of the crew on a huge success at the top of Powder Mountain.
Not for the faint of heart or cold footed ones, this event was a visual and social treat for those who geared up to brave the gusting winds and near artic temps to make to the first annual Superfly Open.
What better way to kick off the 2009 ski season than the Grom fest? This is a competition for the juniors ranging in ages from 3-6 and then a little older from 7-12. The events for this competition included racing down the slick course set up on powders "Sundown" lift, and also 2 boxes for them to grind and a little jump to pull some rad tricks off of. The weather couldn't have been any better with the sun shining and the powder flying what more could you ask for? But I do have to say one thing these kids know how to ride fast and with style, they are the future for skiing and snowboarding that is for sure!

So the day is March 30th of 2009 and we got a massive amount of snow for this time of year! With over a foot of new snow this was one of the best days I have had up there! The skies were clear as could be and the wind was actually pretty calm which is crazy for hidden lake. Taking the sunrise lift up was unbelievable, riding through that much powder is like getting a little slice of heaven! So it was a pretty amazing day, got in some nice turns with a lot of snow, a lot of sunshine, and a lot of fun! It wasn't bad at all for the so called "spring riding"!

What is a young middle aged totally cool skier to do? The lure of warm gondolas, adult conversation and extraordinary snow, plus the best meatloaf in the universe for lunch, pulls one to the Basin. On the other hand, the lack of crowds, the new high-speed quad, and extraordinary snow, plus chili cheese fries to die for, pulls one to Pow Mow.
2008 Superfly Open - Friday, February 8 - Sunday, February 10, 2008
(Eden, UT) When the "Google Guys" do anything, the world seems to take
notice. Well it's a fact - Google's founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page are
avid Kite Surfers, which they happen to enjoy mostly in the Pacific ocean of
Northern California.
Kiteboarding is the generic term for any sport where a colorful kite is
strapped to an athlete on surfboard, snowboard, skis, skateboard, etc.
Those addicted to snow sports, or anyone who enjoys colorful displays of
talent, will love watching or participating in the 2008 Superfly Snowkiting
Competition at Powder Mountain February 8 - 10. If you've ever watched the
colorful beauty of hot air balloons launching, imagine the basket on a pair
of skis or snowboard ripping across the horizon, and you'll have some
inkling of the intrigue of this sport. It's colorful, it's dynamic, and it's
COOL! Charge up your cameras and video recorders and head on up to Powder
Mountain!
MARCH 8,
2008 – Brian Smith, 32, of
Gunnison, Colorado jolted past Josiah Middaugh, 29, of Vail, CO, less
than 20
meters from the finish line to win the inaugural XTERRA Winter World
Championship in dramatic fashion at Snowbasin Resort this afternoon.
After
nearly two hours of grueling racing action that included mountain
biking,
snowshoeing, running and ski mountaineering in snow flurries at 6,000+
feet elevation,
Smith pulled off a jaw-dropping come-from-behind victory by a little
more than
one-second in 1:58:29.92 (with Middaugh right behind in 1:58:31.21).
“I
didn’t think I could do it until four gates before the finish and I saw
Josiah
snow plowing,” said an exuberant Smith. “I’ve
been alpine racing since the third grade so that last stretch was my
cup of
tea.”
Spectators
at the finish line remarked that it was the most unbelievable 13
seconds of
racing – in any sport – they had ever seen.
Wolf was very nice, it was a blue bird day and the snow was a little slushy which is not bad at all for late season conditions! The terrain park is sick up there, they have quite a few rials up now and three jumps for you to hit! The crew up there is keeping the hits nice for everyone to hit from beginner to more adavanced riders. Its fun for all so get up there and catch some rays and some air all in the same day while this beautiful white stuff is still on the ground!
Powder Mountain is now open for day skiing as well as night skiing.
Sundown and Timberline lifts will begin running for the 08/09 season at 9:00am on Friday, December 19. Until additional lifts open, adult lift passes will be $32 and children (7 -12 years) will be $20. Everyone do your best snow dance. We want everything open!
The relatively new sport of Snowkiting will be the feature of a new
festival at Powder Mountain on February 8 - 10, 2008. Daytime
activities at the resort during the festival will include introductory
kite clinics, kite demos, a freestyle competition and kitercross races.
The event will be part of the US Snowkite Tour. The festival is
co-sponsored by Utah Kite Addiction, Utah's first PASA certified
snowkite school, and Best Kiteboarding.
